As a graduate from BYU in Clothing and Textiles, I enjoy coming back and speaking to current students. Many are surprised how much of an effect one's appearance can be in the workplace.
Stanford University performed a study in which they found that when people were asked what they remember after a personal interaction, 55 percent of people recall visual things like clothing, posture and grooming, while just seven percent recall what was said. This is why appearance in the workplace is so crucial. Likewise, not allowing your appearance to be a deterrent during the interview process is equally important in a competitive marketplace.
